Oh how embarrassing!

It seems like most embarrassing moments lately have taken place at church during the sacrament, and yesterday was no exception. Chloe was sitting next to me and right as the bread was coming by, she reaches over to me and kinda punches my stomach a couple of times and says, "Mom you don't have a baby in there any more huh?" This is not an uncommon question, I think that she is still confused even after 6 months, but it is not the embarrassing part either. She had said it pretty loud so I just very quietly moved her hand and shook my head and whispered, "Nope, Kate is right over there with Dad." Which in counter she says, even louder than the first time, and while she is hitting me in the chest, "But there is milk in there huh Mom!", "When Kate wakes up will she have some milk?" I once again just quietly moved her hand and then whispered that we needed to be reverent now and think about Jesus. I was thinking that it is kinda hard to be reverent when both your parents are cracking up!

The verdict is in...

I've noticed Alec squinting a lot lately and actually one of his teachers and a couple other people have noticed it too, so I decided that we really needed to get his eyes checked. I needed to get in for my yearly eye exam too, so he and I went on Friday. Yes, he unfortunately inherited my bad eye sight and was told that he needs glasses. This quality he inherited solely from me. Eric wore glasses for a few of years, but a couple of years ago when he went in for a check up he was told that he no longer needed glasses. Go figure? But I am really, really blind so we concluded that any bad eyes would have to be blamed on me. I was actually excited to be able to blog about Alec. Between school, friends and scouts, he isn't around that much. He's past the age where he is the funny little kid that you always take pictures of and it's rare that I say, "You will never believe what Alec did/said today!" It is pretty sad because he mostly just looks at me like I am the dorky mom who he is totally embarrassed of! That is probably an overstatement, but I am really learning the older he gets, the less he needs or wants me. It is also fun though to see him becoming a whole person who I now have real conversations with and who I really enjoy spending the little time he allows me with! Anyway, I got my glasses when I was 5 and I remember how much I hated wearing them so I asked Alec if the was excited or worried about getting glasses. He said that he was both. I asked him what he meant and he said, "I am worried that my friends will tease me, but I am excited that I can take them off!"

I know exactly how you feel bud! Don't worry I think we picked out a good pair!

Pics of Tricks

Kate turned 6 months this week and it is amazing how much she has learned and grown in that short time. It really hit me last Sunday when I discovered that her first tooth, bottom right, had finally broken through. So I thought I would document a few more of her advancements. Here are a few of the "tricks", as Chloe calls them, she can do.
She is an independent sitter...

If you ask her if she is so big, she lifts her hands above her head...

If you ask her for a kiss, she will give you one, a really big one. It is not just a lips to the cheek thing either, she really kisses. I guess she figured that one out quick because she gets so many of them...

If you say, "Where is Kate?" she will pull her blanket up over her and then pull it back down...


This is such a fun age and before I know it she will be way beyond all this fun stuff and want nothing to do with me just like the other two. I am going to savor it while it lasts...at least until the crawling starts!

Easter Weekend

We started our weekend early Friday with Eric surprising us by taking a vacation day. Alec went to school because he had some tests in the morning, but we checked him out after lunch and took the kids to Horton Hears A Who. They loved it! Then we went home and packed up to spend the rest of the weekend at my parents.

We had a great weekend at "The Resort".

As you can see we had a classic "Nikki" moment when Chloe was asked to show us how her new High School Musical Microphone worked....she didn't want to. As I have said before, Don't Instigate!

My grandpa made all the kids rubberband guns that they had a blast with. I keep finding rubberbands all over...Thanks Opa!

Our Night O' Fun!

One of the biggest changes that has come out of my being able to quit by job has been the extra "MOM" things I have been able to do. With today being St. Patricks Day I, like I am sure many other mom's did, made a special dinner. Some were not too thrilled at the first sight of the food on their plates, but in the end I think it turned out pretty good. Once we convinced the kids that the "green oozy looking stuff" was just dyed Alfredo, I think they really liked eating it.

After dinner we dyed Easter eggs for our Family Home Evening activity. This went over much better!

Kate At Church

So Kate has gotten to the age where she is not happy just sitting in her car seat during church. Yesterday we had our first fun experience with this new found freedom. As the water for the sacrament came by, I went to take the tray from Eric and hold it for Chloe but Eric said that he had it and took it back a little. Just as this happened, Kate grabbed hold of the side locking her fingers in a few of the cups. We have recently come to find out that Kate has very fast hands and a very tight grip. I could not release her hands from the tray, and Eric could not pull the tray out of her grip before it tilted. Water Everywhere! Lucky the cups that tipped only lost part of their water (a few lucky people got baby finger water) but they all lost enough to cause quite a scene. Chloe got the brunt of the spill, and started screaming, "My new dress (the kids wore their new Easter clothes since we have Stake Conference next week), my new dress, IT'S RUINED!!!" All Eric, Alec and I could do was laugh, you know that Sacrament Meeting laugh where you try to hold in but you just laugh harder and louder.....yeah that laugh! As I am writing this, I can't help but think back to a few times where the water tray has come by and part of the cups are only half full...hmmmm?

You know you have had a few when...

No, this has nothing to do with alcohol, but I do sometimes feel like I have been drinking. Today we had a few errands to run, and run quickly so I could be back for when Alec got home from school. We had run the first 3 and had 1 more to do when I went to get Kate out of the car to put her in the stroller and smelt the unmistakable stench of a needed diaper change. I decided to change her quick, just there on the seat of the car, before we went into the store. I grabbed the wipes from the bag and noticed that I had no diapers with me. In my hast to get out of the house I had neglected to check the supplies. Now, I say you know you have a few when something like this happens because with Alec this would have NEVER happened, with Chloe it MOST LIKELY would not have happened, but with Kate...this MOST DEFINITELY happened. But, having had a few, I did not panic. I remembered that right after Kate was born, I had gotten some sample diapers in the mail. I had stuck them in the center console of the car, meaning to take them in the house. Well the sample diapers, having come right after the baby was born, were newborn size. Kate is now in a size 3 diaper. I once again did not panic. I just went about my business and put the teeny tiny newborn diapers on my 5 month old. All the time grateful that I had not taken them in the house to put with Chloe's doll stuff, like I had meant to do a thousand times. Thank goodness for small blessings!

Miracles do happen!

I think I figured out that if you make a wish on a blog, it comes true. The last 2 mornings have been blissful in our house. Yesterday Kate and Alec didn't get up until 7:45 and Chloe at 8:00. This morning Alec got up at 8:00 and the girls didn't get up until 8:15. (The thing is now I am thinking, "Crap, I can make it to my aerobics class! No more excuses.") It may actually have more to do with the time change and the fact that it has been warm outside and the kids have worn themselves out playing and gotten a lot of fresh air....but if I say that I would like a million dollars, that I don't think that is to much to ask for, and I actually get it....well then, I think this blogging thing will have paid off.



Chloe and Kate had a good time this morning playing babies. Chloe is having so much fun with Kate now that she has gotten bigger and will sit and play with her. It is great to watch them grow and learn. When Kate got tired and ready for her nap, Chloe stood by the side of her crib and read her to sleep. I think she has been taking pointers from Alec!
